Files and previews
Browse the working directory, preview and edit files in place, download and upload.
The file panel is the "Files" tab of the right panel on a task page. It shows the working directory of the project the task belongs to. On a cloud host that is /home/user/ClawsGO/<project>; attachments you upload and files ClawsGO produces both land there.
Directory tree
- Click a file to preview it; click it again to close the preview.
- Click a folder to expand or collapse it. Subfolders load on demand, and each folder shows at most 500 entries.
- Four buttons at the top act on the root: New file, New folder, Upload files, Refresh.
- The letter beside a file name is its Git status (M modified, A added, U untracked, D deleted, R renamed, ! conflict), the same as in VS Code.
- Figures produced by the task are listed separately in a "Figures" group above the tree.
Right-clicking a file, or its "More" button, opens the same menu:
| Item | What it does |
|---|---|
| View / Download | Open the preview, or download to your computer |
| Add to chat | Insert a reference in the composer, the same as typing @path |
| Copy path / Copy relative path | Absolute, or relative to the working directory |
| Cut / Copy / Paste | Move or copy between folders |
| Rename / Delete | Delete cannot be undone |
Folder menus add New file, New folder, Upload files and a zip download. On a local device there are also "Reveal in folder" and "Open in VS Code".
node_modules, .git, .venv, __pycache__ and similar folders are not shown.
Previews
| Type | What you can do |
|---|---|
| Code and text | Syntax highlighting, edit in place. In a Git repository, the gutter marks changes since the last commit (green added, blue modified, red triangle deleted) |
| Markdown | Editable as soon as it opens: headings, lists, tables, math, images and Mermaid code blocks (flowcharts, sequence diagrams and more) show formatted, and the Markdown syntax appears wherever the cursor is. Type / to insert a block; select text for a formatting toolbar; formatting pasted from web pages and documents becomes Markdown |
| Loads page by page, with paging, jump to page, zoom, fit to width and text selection | |
| Office | docx, xlsx and pptx open ready to edit; legacy doc, xls and ppt, macro and template formats (docm, xlsm, xlsb, potx and more), RTF and ODF are read-only. Visio diagrams and djvu and xps scans also open read-only |
| Images | Fit to window by default. Zoom with ⌘ + scroll (Ctrl + scroll on Windows) or a trackpad pinch, drag to pan when zoomed in, double-click to switch between fit and actual size |
| SVG | Opens the graphics workbench: select, rectangle, ellipse, line and text tools, fill and stroke. "Source" is editable |
| Tables | csv and tsv show as a table. Every cell stays exactly as written, nothing is converted. Double-click a cell to edit it. Only that cell changes, the rest of the file stays as is. The table shows the first 500,000 rows. "Source" has the full file and is editable |
| LaTeX | .tex opens the LaTeX workbench: source and PDF side by side, compiled on the cloud host |
| Typst | .typ opens the Typst workbench: source and PDF side by side, compiled automatically when you stop typing. An up-to-date PDF stays untouched on open, and diagnostics still show. Images and files elsewhere in the working directory can be referenced. Errors and warnings appear in the compile log |
| HTML | Renders in an isolated sandbox with page scripts running. Local images and stylesheets from the same folder do not load. "Source" is editable |
| Mermaid | .mmd and .mermaid show as a diagram, with the same zoom as images. Diagrams with syntax errors show a notice. "Source" is editable |
| Jupyter notebooks | .ipynb shows cell by cell: formatted Markdown, highlighted code and the outputs saved in the file (plots, tables, errors). Double-click a cell or use its edit button to change its source. Shift + Enter finishes, Esc cancels, and the rest of the file stays as is. Code does not run, so outputs stay as they were. "Source" is editable |
| Sequences and trees | FASTA, Clustal, Stockholm, PHYLIP, MSF and NEXUS alignments are colored by residue (ClustalX, by residue, by nucleotide, percent identity). Hover shows the sequence name, column and residue number. Newick and NEXUS trees draw by branch length or as a cladogram, with optional support values. Files with several trees show one at a time, and you can jump straight to any of them. "Source" is editable |
| Molecular structures | pdb, cif, mol2, sdf, xyz and more in 3D. Rotate, zoom, switch between cartoon, ball-and-stick and surface. Step through multiple models; crystal CIF shows the unit cell. Proteins and nucleic acids get a sequence bar: hover a letter to highlight it in 3D, click to center on that residue. Measure distance: click two atoms or residues in turn (on cartoons, Cα for proteins and O3′ for nucleic acids) to show the distance (Å) |
| Density maps and grid data | Cryo-EM and crystallographic maps (mrc, map, ccp4 and EMDB's .map.gz), MTZ and structure factor CIF (2Fo-Fc / Fo-Fc from map coefficients), density server CIF / BCIF, APBS dx and Gaussian cube (electron density and orbitals): 3D isosurfaces, drag the slider to set the contour level (σ, standard deviations from the mean), switch between mesh and solid. Maps where both signs matter, such as electrostatic potentials, can also show the negative contour |
| TIFF | Page through multi-page files or jump straight to a page. 16-bit and floating-point data get automatic contrast. Zoom works as for images; the pointer shows coordinates and the raw pixel value |
| Medical images | NIfTI, MGH / MGZ, NRRD, MHA and MRtrix MIF: multiplanar and 3D rendering, colour maps, frame by frame for 4D data. GIfTI, mz3, FreeSurfer surfaces, tractography (trk, tck, trx) and VTK meshes show in 3D with their triangle or streamline count |
| 3D models | STL, OBJ, PLY, GLB, 3MF, Collada (dae) and PCD: rotate and zoom. PLY and PCD point clouds show as points. Texture files from the same folder do not load |
| Array data | FITS (.fits, .fit, .fts, including .fits.gz), NumPy .npy and .npz (including .npy.gz), and 2D cryo-EM MRC images and RELION .mrcs stacks. Images have scale limits (zscale, minmax, 99.5%), stretch and colormap options, frame by frame for 3D and up. 1D data plots as a curve; drag to zoom in. Any array can switch to a table of exact values. FITS tables show as tables and headers card by card. The cursor shows coordinates and the exact value |
| Audio and video | Play in the browser |
Beyond code and text formats, unfamiliar extensions (such as .out or .dat) are checked by content: text opens as code, and text in an encoding that can't be identified opens read-only. Other binary files show "Preview isn't available for this file" with a download button. Formats such as DICOM, gltf, BAM and HDF5 do not open inline yet. Oversized files show "File is too large to preview": 10 MB for code, tables and HTML, 1 MB for Markdown and Mermaid, 50 MB for sequences and alignments, 4 MB for SVG, 30 MB for notebooks, 50 MB for molecular structures, 256 MB for density maps, 200 MB for TIFF and 3D models, and 256 MB for medical images and array data.
The preview card sits between the conversation and the right panel. You can open several files at once, each in its own tab.
Editing and saving
Code, text and Markdown are editable in the preview. Changes save automatically 800 ms after you stop typing; ⌘S (Ctrl+S on Windows) saves at once. The status in the corner reads Unsaved / Saving / Saved / Save failed.
Office documents are edited in the built-in editor. ⌘S or the editor's own save button writes back to the host immediately; after you close the tab the editor saves once more within a few seconds. Watch the editor's own status bar for save state.
You and ClawsGO editing the same file
Editing a notebook or table cell keeps the changes ClawsGO makes elsewhere in the file. If ClawsGO changes the same cell, or adds or removes rows above it in a table, your edit is not saved and a notice lets you copy your text. In code and text editors your draft wins. If ClawsGO is writing a file, wait until it finishes before you edit.
Automatic previews
When ClawsGO delivers a file of a previewable type, it opens automatically. When it writes a Markdown file with its tools and you already have that file's preview open, the preview grows along with the content. An automatic preview folds the right panel away to make room; closing the preview brings the panel back. Nothing opens automatically on phones.
Downloading
- One file: "Download" in the menu, or the download button in the preview header. Markdown files can be downloaded as Markdown, Word, PDF or plain text.
- A whole folder: "Download" in the folder menu produces a zip. Folders with more than 500 entries show "Folder is too large to download as a zip"; download subfolders instead.
- If the cloud host is asleep, the first download wakes it. The button may spin for tens of seconds.
- Download links are signed and valid for one hour.
Uploading
- "Upload files" in the panel uploads to the root; the folder menu's "Upload files" uploads into that folder. Files with the same name get a suffix rather than overwriting.
- Files dropped on or pasted into the composer become task attachments and upload to the
inputfolder of the working directory (created if missing, together with a.gitignorethat keeps attachments out of Git commits and an.ignorethat keeps them searchable by the agent). Up to 10 per message. The per-file limit depends on your plan, see Plans; uploads to a task on this computer from the desktop app have no size limit.
Host tab
The "Host" tab of the right panel is the machine running the task: terminals, the desktop view entry on cloud hosts, CPU / memory / disk usage, and whether the SSH servers in this host's ~/.ssh/config are reachable. Kernel and architecture and the installed toolchain, Python packages and global npm packages are under Hosts → Environment.
When disk usage nears the limit, "Clean caches" under Hosts → Storage clears pip, npm and similar package caches without touching project files or installed software. Disk quotas per plan are in Plans.
